Black Friday Prep Guide: It's So On!

Posted by Manish Pandey On 0 comments

There's nothing like waking up before the sun rises (way before) to stand in line at 4:00 a.m., watching your breath rise in smoky swirls until the clock chimes 6:00 a.m. and the store opens. Ahh, tradition.

Of course, you can do all of your holiday bargain shopping online these days, but then you would miss the mad dash to the electronics department, the thrill of fighting your way through the sea of people and claiming the very last gaming console priced perfectly at $299.99. Sweet victory.

If you have ever participated in Black Friday, you know how madly insane it is, but also how fantastic it can be. Black Friday is an experience, one that is a tradition with many friends and families who mark the day after Thanksgiving as their favorite during the holiday season.

In past years, you may have made an effort to wake up early and get in line with the masses, but fell short of getting to the hot-ticket items before others snatched them up. But this year is going to be different. This year you have prepared. You are organized. You. Are. Ready! Get out the war paint, sharpen those elbows and grab your lists because Black Friday is quickly approaching.

Black Friday Preparation
One Month Before

Do your homework: A month before Black Friday, research the items – electronics especially – that you are interested in. You can find comprehensive comparisons on laptops, Smartphones, LED TVs, MP3 players, eBook Readers, Navigation GPS, Video Game Consoles and many more electronics on TopTenREVIEWS.com. At TopTenREVIEWS We Do the Research So You Don’t Have To.™

Once you have decided on the make and model of the products that you want, check your local advertisements in the Sunday paper or online every week prior to Black Friday. Create an Excel document or use paper and pencil to catalog your items and their prices at various stores. When the Black Friday ads are finally released, you will have a firm grasp on what deals are true Black Friday deals and should not be missed.

Use your resources: If you have friends who are also looking to score some major Black Friday deals, then networking is the best answer. With all of you pooling your resources, you should have a nice little nest egg of information regarding new deals, coupons and local or national sales events occurring on or around Black Friday.

Find strength in numbers: Shopping Black Friday sales alone can be done of course, but we suggest, in earnest, that you acquire a shopping buddy. Grab 'em and drag 'em. Ask your mother, BFF, boyfriend, partner, neighbor, etc. With two or more people by your side, you can divide and conquer, each scooping up multiples of items in the electronics, toy and clothing departments, covering all of your bases and filling your carts with fabulous holiday goodies.

Create a budget: Money, money, money. There is never enough of it, especially around the holidays, right? So it is absolutely crucial that you take a hard look at your financial situation and make realistic and smart decisions about your holiday budget. Create a budget and STICK TO IT!

If it helps, you can start by telling your children that Santa is on a budget this year and ask them to choose one big item, then fill in their list with smaller, less expensive items. This way everyone will be happy on the big day.

Mid-November - Thanksgiving Day

Check Online: The internet, as you know, is an almighty source of information, a tool that you can wield in your favor to become the ultimate Black Friday shopper. Our favorite Black Friday preparation tools reside here, on the web. The following sites compile a comprehensive database of the hundreds of stores that participate in Black Friday. On these sites, you can find the best Black Friday deals and scans of hundreds of Black Friday ads. Many Black Friday ads will actually become available mid-November. These sites will help you continue your research in finding the best deals, early-bird sales events and more:

dealnews.com/black-friday – DealNews is a stupendous site for daily deal rummaging, but it also provides a selection on the best Black Friday deals. DealNews sorts deals by Store, Categories, Hottest and Deals. If you are looking for a specific product, you can use the search bar and the results will pull from all recorded Black Friday sales. Quick and efficient.

bfads.net – Creating a shopping timeline is important for your Black Friday success. Black Friday Ads offers an Online Black Friday Sales Timeline, which chronicles numerous stores, when their Black Friday sales begin, if there are door busters and, for online shoppers, if there is free shipping.

blackfriday.gottadeal.com – Gottadeal.com does something that other Black Friday sales sites do not do: They create comparison charts for some of the most popular product categories. You can join their mailing list and receive a notification every time they post a new ad.

black-friday.net – Black-Friday.net feverishly updates their Black Friday ads as they receive them. You can register to receive a notification each time a new ad posts to the site. This site will also post Cyber Monday deals and early Black Friday events. We love this particular site because not only does it post hundreds of Black Friday deals and Cyber Monday deals, it also organizes the deals categorically and provides direct links to each product, so you can purchase the deal quickly. Do all of your holiday shopping at home and still save loads of moolah.

blackfriday.info – BlackFriday.info collects Black Friday deals from over 100 retailers and sorts the deals into specific categories such as electronics, clothing and apparel, sports and fitness and over 20 more, creating a comprehensive catalogue of the best Black Friday deals. BlackFriday.info publishes ad scans from many retailers and will post pre-Black Friday deals and other sales surrounding the biggest shopping day of the year. You can join their mailing list to receive updates.

Twitter – You can follow multiple Black Friday accounts on Twitter. Our favorites include @blackfriday, @blackfriday.net and @blackfriday_fm.

Make Lists: Lists are essential to successful holiday shopping. Electronics, toys, clothing, movies, music, gift cards, etc. The list for your family and friends may seem endless, but thanks to your Black Friday preparation, you will score tons o' bounty for all of your loved ones.

If you subscribe to your local newspaper, your Thanksgiving Day issue will be jam-packed with store ads. You can create a "master list" using these ads, as well as from the information you gather from the comprehensive Black Friday sites we mentioned above. We suggest you organize the master list accordingly:

• Create a timeline. What store do you absolutely have to go first? That should be at the top of your list.

• Under each store name on your list, jot down the products you are hoping to purchase. If you are familiar with the store, we suggest that you group products according to their location in the store.

• Next to the product name, write down the advertised price of the item.

• At the end of each store's list, write down the dollar amount that you expect to spend in that store. At the bottom of your list, total all of the individual numbers to get your grand total.

Creating a master list will take some time, but having a handle on these details will help you know exactly where to go in the store, what to buy and how much you will spend.

Black Friday, Nov. 25, 2011

Today's the day! Whether you are staying home and bargain shopping online, or indulging in the thrilling early-morning festivities, we hope you have followed our tips and are now ready to get your shopping on. We wish you the best of luck in your Black Friday and Cyber Monday endeavors. Enjoy the savings!

What will the Black Friday deals be?

Posted by Manish Pandey On 0 comments

The economy’s late swoon has fooled many retailers and they will probably have to discount big at Christmas, starting with Black Friday, Nov. 25.  The ConsumerSearch blog is guessing Black Friday deals will include:

  • TVs: Mid-level performers, especially 3D models, may see a 50% price cut or be or be bundled with extras such as 3D glasses and 3D Blu-ray players at their lowest prices to date
  • Kitchen & Home: Small kitchen appliances, such as slow cookers and blenders for $10-$20
  • Digital Cameras: The most basic (and poorly-reviewed) cameras will show up in store circulars – and average savings will only be about $10-$20 less than the regular retail price
  • Tablets: HTC Flyer and other similarly capable Android tablets as low as $199 or even less to stay competitive with the Kindle Fire

Black Friday 2011 TV Deals Predictions

Posted by Manish Pandey On Wednesday, 19 October 2011 0 comments

We expect the first Black Friday 2011 sales events to kick of on Friday, October 28. This is already next week. Are you ready? Black Friday TV deals are the most popular among Black Friday shoppers. Retailers always put TV deals front and center on their Black Friday Ads. The TV with the lowest price will be again the biggest attention grabber.

Last year Walmart offered a 32-inch Emerson 720p HDTV for $198 on Black Friday. This is what retailers will need to beat this year to offer the cheapest Black Friday TV. I see retailers selling a basic 32-inch 60Hz 720p TV for $179 this year. Such an offer will draw a lot of attention. The big trend in the bargain TV sector is though full HD. More consumers will want this year a bargain 1080p HDTV.

The best Black Friday 1080p TV deal last year was from Target. They sold a 40-inch Westinghouse 1080p TV for only $298. This year more retailers will offer bargain 1080p TVs during the Black Friday 2011 deal season.

Black Friday is though also a great time to by a mid-range and high-end TV. Steep discounts will be available throughout the whole month of November. You should take time in tracking the prices of your favored model. Last year we crowned a 3D TV the best Black Friday TV Deal of 2010. Why? Because you got super steep discounts on a great TV like the Panasonic TC-P50GT25 and free 3D Blu-ray player and 3D starter kit. This year 3D TVs are also available in the $500-$1,000 price-range. This is possible through the passive polarizer technology.

High-end TV sets will almost by default come with 3D. Even if you just want a Smart TV with apps and internet, TV makers are including 3D by default in their high-end series.

No matter what type of TV you are looking for this year, you should be able to score a great deal during the Black Friday 2011 sales. The best stores to look for TV bargains are Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart and Target.

PlayStation 3 250GB Black Friday SaleCustomer Reviews ###

“The PlayStation 3 250GB Black Friday Sale is very quite compared to other game consoles. I have it hooked up to a 28″ HD TV and the graphics are fantastic. I also use it for limited Web surfing and watching DVD’s. Some games that are made to work on different game consoles, seem to be a little buggy and freeze more on the PS3. This may be due to not being originally designed for the PlayStation 3 250GB Black Friday Sale. The controller feels nice and is easy to use with good control of the buttons, except the R2 and L2 triggers are rounded down at the bottom.”

“I bought this PlayStation 3 250GB Black Friday Sale because my original 60 gig ps3 broke. so far i am loving this ps3 and no probloms yet. but i just have to get used to the fact that i can’t play my ps2 or ps1 games on the ps3 anymore.”

eReader News: Kindle Personal Documents and Black Friday Clues

Posted by Manish Pandey On 0 comments

On October 14, 2011, Amazon.com updated to the personal documents feature, and Staples' new ads may offer clues to which ereaders to watch on Black Friday.

For customers who use Kindle Personal Documents, Amazon has emailed some welcome news of a much needed update on October 14, 2011, especially as people may be getting ready to get second Kindles or the Kindle Fire. The October 16, 2011 ad from Staples has some Amazon Kindle and Barnes and Noble Nook offers, and the offers could be on the models that will be available at a discount on Black Friday.

Kindle Personal Documents

Previously, if your Kindle needed to be fixed under warranty, you lost your personal documents when Amazon sent a new Kindle to replace your old Kindle. You could re-send the documents because they were stored in your email account, but a small service free is added whenever you send personal documents to Kindles by email.

Amazon has now changed this feature. Documents will be archived and they can be downloaded again to new Kindles, including the Kindle 4, Kindle Touch, and (eventually) Kindle Fire. Kindle 3 users need to update their software to be able to re-downloaded documents; the software update is v3.3.

Black Friday Deals Personal documents are now going to be stored on Amazon.com, which is good news for people who send Microsoft Word .doc files and pdf files to their Kindles by email. Annotations, bookmarks, and syncing your Kindle to the last page you read are also supported features for Kindle Personal Documents if your Kindle is new enough to have the feature.

Currently, the Kindle apps and the Kindle Fire are scheduled to be able to re-download documents "in coming months," according to the "New Kindle Personal Documents Feature" email from Amazon.com Kindle Support.

Staples Ad: eBook Reader Sales

The October 9 - 15, 2011 ad from Staples has some good deals on the Nook Color and the Kindle 3, and it is possible that those will be the models highlighted on sale for Black Friday in stores and for Cyber Monday online. Last year, Woot.com sold Kindle 2s for a discount before the release of Kindle 3, and Amazon then sold the Kindle 2 for $89 on Black Friday (the deal was announced by Twitter and the devices sold out in minutes).

Amazon owns Woot, but it partners with Staples to sell the Kindle and Kindle accessories. In the new Staples ad that ends October 15, 2011, there is a $5 off $25 coupon, and although the Kindle is usually excluded, this time the only exclusions are related to toner, self service, stamps, and gift cards. To see the ad, you need to enter your zip code on the Staples site.

The Staples flyer also shows the Barnes and Noble Nook Color for the standard price of $249, but customers can get a $25 gift card with the purchase of a Nook Color tablet. This could be in anticipation of competing with the Kindle Fire, but it could also be a clue that Nook Colors will be reduced in inventory on Black Friday and Cyber Monday to make room for an updated Nook Color. Kindle with Keyboard, which is the new name for Kindle 3, comes with a $30 gift card from Staples after the $189 purchase price. The Blackberry Playbook is $200 off at Staples until the 15th.

On the October 16-22, 2011 Staples ad, the Kindle is again featured; the Kindle 3 with special offers is discounted by $15, and the $5 of $25 coupon still does not exclude ereaders. If Amazon and Barnes and Noble are now allow coupons for the Kindle and the Nook, that is a good predictor that they will allow discounts on Black Friday, and the gift cards with purchase could indicate that last year's high end Kindle and Nook models will be this year's Black Friday and Cyber Monday fire sale.

Posted by Manish Pandey On Thursday, 13 October 2011 0 comments

Number of people lined up outside stores to dive in sales after Thanksgiving, according to a new study by Accenture. This holiday season can be a little disappointing for retailers, if the poll numbers are any indication. More people than last year are more concerned about saving money on holiday sales.

Accenture's survey of the holiday shopping season found that 77 percent of holiday shoppers will focus on the "prudence" and expenses "controlled", and 88 percent of them plan to spend less this year than past. The only group that seems likely to spend the same amount or more buyers in high-income (earning $ 100 000 or more), and represent only a small percentage of the population.

Respondents said it expects to use more "precision cart" to ensure the very best deals and spent as little as possible during the holiday season. Many of them are closely related and use technology such as smart phones and tablets to make sure they find the best deals. 93 percent of respondents said that finding cuts in major retailers. will have to find ways to attract these customers discounts-conscious, offering services that add value to their products.

Value of Black Friday continues to decline, as only 44 percent intended to give a busy day of shopping importance, which fell 47 percent in 2010 and 52 percent in 2009. Only 6 percent of respondents said their consumption would be "unreasonable" and "uncontrollable." They cited the cost of food, gas prices, and concerns about the economic reasons for the effort to detail.

Accenture is a global IT consulting, outsourcing and technology services to clients in over 120 countries around the world. With net income of $ 25.5 million to U.S. customers include some of the most successful companies in the world and governments.

Black Friday 2011: Top 5 Online Retailers with Best Deals on Black Friday

Posted by Manish Pandey On Wednesday, 12 October 2011 0 comments

dealnews.com put together a good piece on which retailers are the best online during Black Friday weekend.
Walmart and Target did not make the cut.
    Who did?
The top five were selected based on the number of "EDITOR'S CHOICE" awards they received last year.
For instance a score of 33 "Editor's Choice" awards means they had 33 awesome deals online.
    So who made the cut?

The Top Five Online Merchants for the Best Deals During Black Friday Weekend:

    1. Amazon: 132 Editors' Choice Deals
(40% of Amazon's total Black Friday Weekend deals)

Surprised? The leader of our year-long deals list also takes the top spot here. The super-popular online retailer offered a grand total of 326 deals during the 5-day weekend, several of which were the ever-so-popular (and literally as fast as) Lightning Deals. (A whopping 49 Editors' Choice deals were posted on Black Friday alone.)

Among the most popular offerings were $2 MP3 album downloads (which even included Lady Gaga's latest release), a Nintendo DS Lite handheld console for $80 (and this was before Nintendo's retail price dropped to $100), and a Canon EOS Rebel T2i 18MP DSLR 2-lens bundle with additional accessories for just $799.

    2. Best Buy: 33 Editors' Choice Deals
(49% of Best Buy's total Black Friday Weekend deals)

The Yellow Tag's Black Friday Weekend offerings don't quite total one-third of Amazon's total listings, but nearly half of Best Buy's deals were tagged with dealnews' top honor. Meanwhile, Best Buy appeared to take the "Early Bird" approach, as a majority of its Editors' Choice deals were published on Thanksgiving. (By comparison, only three such deals appeared on dealnews on Black Friday.)

Some of Best Buy's best included an all-time low for a Samsung 46" 1080p LCD HDTV / Blu-ray player bundle and a Barnes & Noble nook for $100 via in-store pickup (a best-ever price at the time). Best Buy's laptop offerings were especially notable, one example being a Samsung Core i3 2.13GHz 14" Blu-ray Laptop for $450.

    3. newegg: 31 Editors' Choice Deals
(27% of newegg's total Black Friday deals)

The renowned electronics retailer, which was absent on our previous list, ranks third in terms of Editors' Choice deals, nipping at Best Buy's heels with 31 such offerings. newegg came on strong on Black Friday with 12 Editors' Choice listings, while six were featured on Cyber Monday.

For the consumer who doesn't shy away from rebates, newegg had some particularly compelling offers. Some of the most notable deals from the 'egg included a Patriot 16GB microSDHC card ($9 after a $10 rebate — we still haven't seen such a card for less), an HP OfficeJet 4500 Wireless All-In-One Printer for $50 (which tied OfficeMax's Black Friday deal for the non-wireless version), and a Zalmon Athlon 3GHz Quad-Core HTPC Barebones Kit for $523 after a combined $35 in rebates (which was half off the best price available elsewhere).

    4. Kohl's: 26 Editors' Choice Deals
(55% of Kohl's total Black Friday Weekend deals)

Kohl's boasted the best "Editors' Choice to total deal" ratio than any other merchant. (This was the case with our last list, too.) Stackable sitewide coupons for 20% off and free shipping yielded many all-time lows for apparel and housewares. (And like newegg, Kohl's was also rebate-happy.)

For example, Kohl's had a Rival 5-quart crockpot for just $6 shipped after coupons and rebate, the best we've seen for any such crockpot by $10. Also available was a 5-piece luggage set for $28 after applicable discounts (although, even without the rebate, it still would have been an all-time low for a 5-piece luggage set by a buck). The cheapest iRobot Roomba vacuum we've ever seen was courtesy of the Kohl's Black Friday sale, which offered the 400 model for just $80 (sans rebate).

    5. Dell Home: 25 Editors' Choice Deals
(43% of Dell's total Black Friday Weekend deals)

Dell's consumer storefront boasted an admirable amount of Editors' Choice listings throughout Black Friday Weekend. And no, they weren't limited to laptops and desktops. Dell Home provided significant price lows on other coveted consumer electronics, such as HDTVs, cameras, and gaming consoles. Most of Dell's Editors' Choice deals came on Cyber Monday (10), more than any other day.

Examples of Dell Home's best deals were a Nintendo Wii Limited Edition Red Console for $160 (which undercut Amazon's offer by $40), an all-time low for a Dell 20" LED-backlit LCD monitor (at $85; we've since seen other brands for slightly less), and a Vizio 55" 1080p LCD HDTV for $888 (a then-low for any name-brand TV of that class). Computers weren't forgotten, however, as Dell offered some significant markdowns on its systems (including a refurbished Alienware M11x Core 2 Duo 1.3GHz 12" Laptop for $499).
