With the Indian Railways introducing M-ticket or electronic ticketing, one’s mobile phone, laptop as well as iPads will soon replace a train ticket.
Henceforth, a valid photo identity and a virtual copy of the ticket will be sufficient for a passenger while travelling on an outstation train.
For booking tickets via mobile phones, passengers will have to log into the railway website–www.indianrailways.gov.in and register themselves by using the given user ID number for bookings.
Booking tickets via mobile phones will be available all day apart from between 11:30pm to 12:30 am.
Chief PRO, Western Railway, S Chandrayan stated that payment and booking can be made itself on the handset and the user will receive an SMS along with the ticket details.
