Feeling as if you can't make room for all the daily deals landing in your in-box?
Or more accurately, that your budget's feeling the hit of all these great discounts?
There's Groupon, Living Social, locally-based ZapHour, Plum District, which caters to families in specific Portland neighborhoods, and now, AmazonLocal's in town.
AmazonLocal, which launched in Portland on Sept. 29 promising deals of as much as 75 percent off, went on to expand this week into the Eastside and across the river into Vancouver. Some deals may look familiar -- as Amazon owns part of Living Social, its own daily deals are often co-opted from that site that began offering specials in Portland early last year.
Amazon's first local deal promised $20 worth of Thai food for $10 at Kesone Thai Lao Bistro.
And just in case you get weighed down by that low-priced pad thai, another site, Schwaggle (?!?) announced Monday that it, too, is launching in Portland.
The site, which explains that its name is a combo of the words "swag" and "haggle," -- well, really just the "S" from swag, and where does that "C" come from? -- it'll focus on activities and fitness gear.
Rejuvenation throws a party: Portland lighting retailer Rejuvenation is teaming with Live Wire! to put on a variety show this Thursday that will benefit the local radio show.
The Wave of Light show will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Rejuvenation's Portland store, 1100 S.E. Grand.
The benefit, expected to sell out its $25 tickets quickly because of limited seating, will feature performances by the Parson Red Heads, Oregon Ballet Theater's Uprising, Erin Leddy from Hand2Mouth Theater and Live Wire house poet Scott Poole. And as a party isn't a party without a politico – Oregon Congressman Earl Blumenauer is expected to make an appearance.
Prepare for the parade: While you've got our your social calendar, Macy's announced that its annual holiday parade will be held at 9 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 25.
The one-hour parade will start at Northwest Park Avenue at Davis Street and travel east to Broadway, south up Broadway to Southwest Alder St, east on Alder past Macy's to Fourth Avenue, north on Fourth Avenue to Flanders St., and west on Flanders St., back to Northwest Park, where it will disband.
The parade, held on the informal kick-off to the holiday shopping season dubbed Black Friday, will feature 25 inflated floats, marching bands and nearly 500 costumed characters. The festivities will conclude soon after Santa sleighs for the opening of the department store's Santaland, which will open at 11 a.m.
